Pros and Cons of substance use Positive • In current society Alcohol is used as a social connection. • Temporarily relieve stress. • Prescribed drugs are used to treat many conditions and diseases. • Excessive drinking can cause an addiction to alcohol. • Can have alcohol poisoning and die. • Drugs used recreational have caused addictions and overdoses. Negative
Drinking and Driving!! • Throughout the years drinking and driving has increased dramatically. Many young adults don’t realize how intoxicated they really are and get behind the wheel causing many fatal accidents • In a study shown more than half of the U.S. fatal car crashes are a result from drinking or other substances. The only downside to the research taken was that they couldn’t prove if the driver felt under the influence or even if that is what caused the accident.
Drug Abuse • “Hungary to fight drug abuse” • The drug use amongst teens has increased and they have created a campaign to help. • Therapy and Rehab to serve as what they believe as 30,000 users.
Happy, Healthy Heart • Over time studies have come to show that a little wine or champagne is good on the heart. Reason being that it helps fight heart disease! • (small amounts is recommended, not to consume large or binge drinking.)
Fetal alcohol syndrome • Many individuals when hearing fetal alcohol syndrome think of unborn babies, and recently born ones. When you can actually see the affects later down the road as an adolescent and adult. Physically wise there may not be a difference but this article gives many facts on psychological.
Summary of opinion • Alcohol can be a fun way to socialize and also healthy if consuming the right substance in the right amounts. It can also be very dangerous and addicting, following the alcohol limits and controlling yourself is there for your safety, call a cab, or designating someone to drive is a lot smarter than driving under the influence. When it comes to drugs prescribed understand what you are taking and why, maybe ask for alternative treatments especially if you have a history of abuse. Illegal use is just plain dumb, there are many consequences such as overdose and addiction which neither are worth ruining your life for some drug, know your options and ask questions if you aren’t sure.
