  1. Turning coins Year 5 Aim: Investigate how many two pence coins can be turned over in 10 seconds. Objective: To have an opportunity to develop data handling skills by collecting data and handling it simply.

  2. Turning coins Place ten 2 pence coins in a row along the edge of a table, with approximately a finger’s space between them.

  3. Turning coins Work in a group of 2 or 3, one timing the 10 seconds, one recording the number of turns and one turning.

  4. Turning coins Turn the coins over one by one, with only one hand; the writing hand to begin with. Make sure you go back to the beginning of the row after turning ten coins, and don’t work your way back.

  5. Turning coins What about a practice turn first ? Practice

  6. Turning coins Remember to record your results on your personal worksheets.

  7. Turning coins Next, repeat the activity with the other hand. Other hand
