Hypothesis A prediction about how something works or how two variables are related. If we double the amount of fertilizer, then our experimental plants will also double in height.
Data Information, such as that gathered during an experiment
Classify To group things together because they share one or more properties.
Analyze To study something by breaking it down into simpler parts.
Conclusion A decision that is based on observations or on a study of data.
Root Hairs Thin and hair like stubs that take in water and minerals from the soil. They are attached to the root
Pistil The female reproductive structure of the flower
Stigma Sticky part of the pistil which attracts pollen
Style The slender middle portion of the pistil.
Ovary The base of the pistil, which is the female reproductive structure of a flower.
Stamen The male reproductive structure of a flower.
Filament The stalk-like section of the stamen
Anther The tip of the stamen. The part that produces pollen.
Petal A leaf-like outer part of a flower; usually brightly colored.
Nectar A sweet liquid produced by flowers. Its aroma attracts insects and birds.
Cross Pollination The process by which pollen is transferred from the anther of one flower to the female stigma on another flower.
Wick A long string through which a liquid is drawn to the top of a candle or other object.
Germination Process by which plants emerge from their seeds and begin growth.
Tropism The response of a plant growing toward a light or other external stimulus.
Cell A microscopic structure that is the basic unit of plants and animal life.
Vacuole A storage sac in a plant or animal cell.
Nucleus The central part of a cell. It contains the material that controls how an organism grows and reproduces.
