Business Intelligence Center • Included as part of SharePoint Server Site Definitions • Standard site definition with prebuilt dashboards and Key Performance Indicators • Can add multiple dashboards and KPIs • Can be used as the starting point for building your corporate BI Portal • Many BI features can be activated on a non-BI Center site definition (Team Site)
Dashboards • A simple ASPX page in a library • Has a special content type tied to it • Can be locked down via SharePoint Permissions • Can contain any number of: • Key Performance Indicators web parts • Business Data catalog web parts • Excel Services Web Parts • Reporting Services web Parts • Designed to show data for a particular process • Sales Dashboard • Manufacturing Dashboard • Operations Dashboard
Key Performance Indicators (KPI) • A list type that renders various images that display the status of a particular measured event • Can point to any number of data sources • SharePoint list • Excel Cells • SQL Server Analysis Cubes • Manual Entry • Can be customized to use your own images
BI Integration Points • Don’t let it fool you • BI Center is just a SharePoint site! • Its up to you to make it a BI Site! • Reporting and Analysis Services (.rdl files and web part) • Excel Services with PowerPivot (.xlsx files and web part) • Performance Point integration (discussed later) • Filter Web Parts (used to filter report data and implement user context) • Visio and Access Services • Business Connectivity Services (BCS) • GeoSpatial Data with Charts and Maps
