Once you have clicked on “Search Databases”, you will see the page below. Take a minute to look at the vast amount of specific databases available such as Health, Business, and Global Newspapers.
To begin your research, let’s start with EBSCO Academic Search Complete, which provides full-text databases for periodicals and peer-reviewed journals.
In this database, you have a variety of options for your research such as if you specifically want “full text,” “peer-reviewed,” “a certain publication year or years”, etc.
For this exercise, let’s search for information related to “capital punishment.”
Due to the fact we did not limit the search, EBSCO looked for “all results” within its’ database, which ultimately found 6,705 results. How could we decrease the amount of results in a way to help us find more current information for our research papers? From the results just shown on this page, we have found both journal(1st source) and periodical (2nd source) sources.
Click on the first source and you will be provided the following information: Author, title, document type, and other relevant source information necessary for your MLA documentation. In addition, you will also find a short abstract (summary) of the source and/or the full text article.
Tips for Your Research • When you find a “likely” source you may want to use in your research paper, don’t forget to print the information out or save it. It takes much less time to print or save quickly rather than trying to find the information again at a later date. • Use sources from a reputable source • Do not use Wikipedia (will not be accepted for this paper) • For this paper, please only use print sources (newspaper/journal articles and books) found through your local library (high school, city, or neighboring college) OR the Ranger College library/website n .
