  1. TailorCrete Meeting WP 8 Presentation WP Leader: CTU (Bořek Patzák) Zurich, March 2012

  2. WP8: Life cycle assesment of cost, sustainability, safety and aesthetics Research Partners:DTI, CTU Industrial Partners: ELC, PD, SUP, GS, DTP, GR, DRA, UNC Workpackage Objective: To assess the TailorCrete concept in the life cycle regarding cost, sustainability, safety and aesthetics. The main objective is to compare TailorCrete to the traditional concept.

  3. WP8 Structure and Progress Update Tasks Task 8.1: Life cycle costing DRA 15% Task 8.2: Life cycle environmental impacts DTI 15% Task 8.3: Safety in the life cycle CTU 15% Task 8.4: Aesthetics UNI 10% Task 8.5: Overall assessment CTU 0% Deliverables D8.1: Results of life cycle cost analysis M42 Not Complete D8.2: Results of life cycle screening regarding sustainability M42 Not Complete D8.3: Results of assessment of safety M42 Not Complete D8.4: Results of aesthetic assessment M42 Not Complete D8.5: Summary report on life cycle assessment M48 Not Complete …

  4. WP8 Highlights During M24-M30 • Task progress: • Task 8.1+8.2 (LCC, LCA): Selected section of representative structure – seafront at Benidorm (DRA), Input template preparation (construction phase decomposition, identification of tasks which do not need cost and impact analysis since they are the same as in traditional approach and identification of partners to provide data). • Task 8.3 (Safety): Prepared general safety questionnaire to help identify possible safety issues, complementing existing material data safety template; to be distributed and filled to all partners, initiated gathering the input data.

  5. T8.1 Life Cycle Cost  Task  objective: to compare costs between the traditional process and the TC for a specific construction project. Benidorm Wall Particular section Extrapolate figures

  6. T8.1 Life Cycle Cost •  Input template preparation ( on-going) • TC process life cycle high level decomposition • Traditional process : construction phase low level decomposition. • Identification of tasks which do not need cost analyzed since they cost the same (or with negligible differences) both in the traditional process or in the TC process. • Identification of partners to provide data.

  7. T8.1 Life Cycle Cost •  Input template preparation ( on-going) • Traditional process : construction phase low level decomposition

  8. T8.1 Life Cycle Cost • Templates to be filled by TC partners for the LEGO system and the Wax system. • Continuous process to gather information of the construction process ( costs, resources, etc).

  9. T8.2 Life Cycle Analysis • Prepared extensive LCA data sheet for the partners to fill out. • Similarly to the LCC we need to specify the scenario for which the partners should provide input . • The same representative structure as for LCC: Section of Benidorm wall • Ongoing cooperation with Dragados to get specifications.

  10. Continuous process to gather information of the construction process of the Benidorm Wall • CAD files • PDFs • Costs for each construction phase • Specific construction processes followed

  11. Work Plan (next 6 months) • To develop a 3D model of one particular section . • Provided by SUP • Provide data of number of blocks needed for the two formwork systems. (ETH-DTP) • Costs for material and production of the two formwork systems for that particular section ( ETH-DTP). • Dependant on software production tool development.

  12. T8.3 Safety • Developed new safety questionnaire to help in analysis of all phases in the life cycle with regard to identifying possible safety issues. • The expertise of all partners in particular field is essential to us as it can reveal new issues and help to eliminate them. • Partners participation, answers, comments and suggestions will be very important data input for WP8. The electronic version of this questionnaire can be downloaded from http://mech.fsv.cvut.cz/TC

  13. T8.3 Safety • Questionnaire complemented with material safety template. The electronic version available: http://mech.fsv.cvut.cz/TC

  14. Task 8.4: Accelerated ageing tests - 2 • 12 samples will be tested: • Fiber reinforced SCC (metallic fibers, 60/80 mm) (Dragados) • FRSCC (Synthetic, 48mm) (Dragados) • FRSCC (metallic fibers, 30 or 35mm) (El Caleyo) • 3 Danish steel fiber reinforced SCC (Unicon) • 3 SCC compositions from the FemernBælt investigations (DTI) • 3 similar conventional concrete compositions from the FemernBælt investigations (DTI) • Timing • Casting and despatch to Aalborg in the coming months • Testing to be concluded before Month 42.

  15. Selected WP Exploitable Results WP Exploitable Results

  16. Exploitable Result N. 12 Exploitable Result 12: Life cycle assessment regarding costs, sustainability, aesthetics and safety of TailorCrete concept • The assessment will compare the TailorCrete concept to the traditional approach in the life cycle, regarding cost, sustainability, safety, and aesthetics. The focus will be on differences, with the aim to identify added benefits and possible new issues compared to traditional approach. • Dissemination in the form of report, publication in professional journal • No difficulties encountered yet, still in data acquisition phase • Achievements: Input data identification, input templates

  17. WP Future Planning • LCA+LCC • Placement and handling will be estimated once defined the number of blocks and their weights. (PD) • Reinforcement design (double curve panels) when 3D drawings are available (SDU/GB/CHA) • SDU/GB will calculate the cost of robotic production. • Cost of transportation for formwork and reinforcement (ELC) once set the number of panels and blocks ( and their shapes).   • Reuse and recycling possibilities of the formwork systems (ETH and DTI). • Traditional process definition and calculation (Wood formwork, reinforcement production and placing, etc.) (DRA). • Safety • Distribution of safety questionnaire and material safety template to project partners (very soon, even before Zurich meeting) • Initiate data input collection
