UEET Group 2 We decided to dissect a fan in order to figure out the structure of the fan and the way that the engine works. Our initial understanding of the fan was limited but after disassembling it we discovered that it has an electric motor and a very efficient design.
The Motor The motor rotates the fan blades by using the natural magnetic pull of the opposing magnets. This proves to take very little energy, adding to the efficiency of the fan. The Design The design of the fan is made in such a way to complement simplicity and ease. The motor and all outlying wires of the fan are safely kept in place by wire holders in the base of the fan to ensure safety and the cover of the fan is also durable and not easily broken.
Conclusions Although the fan is easily made and cheap to manufacture in mass quantities, it does not loose much effectiveness. Some problems encountered are the noise the fan outputs and the small amount of maintenance that needs to be done. The noise problem could be counteracted by applying rubber stoppers to the base of the fan; however, this would interfere with the design process. It would probably not be a big interference though so the minimal change seems worth it. The maintenance could be made easier by having the ability to snap the blade cover on and off and this would also reduce the cost for screws. The fan overall is very strong for such a small fan and very energy efficient.
