Why recommend CGP Math? • Provides a powerful tool that aligns with our philosophy of how to teach mathematics • Strong visual content for learning • Supports Smartboard/PowerPoint/Overhead for daily lessons • Addresses the needs of our EnglishLearners • Parallel design with the way we teach math everyday • Includes web-based solutions • Provides multi-media accessibility to content

CGP Math Provides a Strong Foundation for Learning • California standards explained in “kid terms” • Introductory activities provide hands-on experiences • Differentiated support built into lessons – Levels I, II, and III – to meet a range of student needs • Common student misconceptions identified throughout lessons with suggestions to teachers on how to address them

  6. CGP Math has digital support • Textbook and workbook are available on-line • Program will work with Hotmath.com • PowerPoint introductions and lessons provide a foundation for standards taught, are interactive and motivating to students

  7. Accelerated Algebra • Text: McDougal Littell (Dolciani) • Target: Accelerated students capable of handling a faster paced curriculum • Positive Qualities: • This text has been a successful tool for many years at Price. • Aligns with how we teach algebra.

Geometry 1 Program recommended for advanced study • Text: Discovering Geometry by Key Curriculum Press • Target: Advanced students ready to study Geometry • Positive Qualities: • Discovery approach with real life problems • Text that has been used successfully in the past • CUHSD uses this text for geometry and rates it highly

  9. A fully funded math program will support a strong implementation • Proposed funding sources include Instructional Materials Funding Realignment Program (IMFRP) • CGP Math - $99,000 • Dolciani Algebra - $15,000 • Lottery for Instructional Materials • Discovering Geometry - $3,500

  10. Sufficient texts are provided for both the classroom and home • Continues Cambrian’s practice of providing students with a text in the classroom as well as at home • Reflects interest in • reducing backpack weight for students (AB 2532, 2002) • Avoiding cost & management of campus lockers • The home/school measure costs ~ $31,000

  11. Planning will support an effective implementation of CGP Math • If approved, the Price adoption team will reconvene to plan: • Professional development & collaboration • Alignment of our scope and sequence with the textbook including assessment. • Best strategies for math intervention • This will occur from January to June 2009 in preparation for a full implementation beginning in August, 2009
