  3. Objectives of EEO • Improve energy efficiency through improved: • Identification • Evaluation • Implementation • Targeted at organisations>0.5PJ ($5-10m elec) • 210 corporations • Approx 30% of national energy use • Industry, transport and commercial sectors

  7. Optimising EEO in the commercial sector • EEO process is generic but strongly applicable to commercial sector • Focus on management, decision making and communication aligns with LEHR results • Most larger portfolios are already doing most of the work – it is just a matter of formalising this

  8. EEO is about moving beyond BAU • EEO process is intended to increase energy efficiency performance beyond BAU • Integrate into your processes to get full benefit • Integrate into your processes to minimise compliance overhead • Use EEO to become a leader rather than a follower

Update on Green Building Fund • Green Building Fund has completed its final round of funding awards • Last round (Round 7) focussed on retail/hotel rather than office • Focus is now on ensuring works are completed and fully reported, on schedule • Not a trivial task • Reporting essential for success or failure to capture industry learnings

Update on Tax Breaks for Green Buildings • Proposed Tax Breaks for Green Buildings start date deferred to July 2012 to allow further program design and consultation • Scheme will award tax breaks for projects that achieve significant improvements in energy efficiency • NABERS will be used as the primary metric • Legislation due this calendar year

Conclusions • Australian Government is promoting a number of schemes to boost achievement of energy efficiency • EEO is the central program for large energy users • Program designed to build capacity as well as achieve results • Complementary to, and complemented by, other schemes such as NABERS, NGERS, CBD
