Grade 2 Math Problem-Solving Children learn concepts better when they are put to the task of finding solutions their own way. A problem-solving question is posed and students are encouraged to first communicate with their partners to discuss the plan of action. Then they are able to use any type of materials (manipulatives) necessary to help them solve that question and represent it as best they can on paper. After, we share our strategies with the class and learn other methods of solving problems!
Growing Patterns Question: One farmer has 1 chicken. The chicken has 2 legs. If another farmer has a chicken, how many legs will there be altogether? If a third farmer has a chicken, how many legs will there be altogether? If this pattern continues, how many legs will there be altogether by the fifth farmer?
