About FCI • FCI: Five Colleges, Incorporated, the 501(c)(3) consortium of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke & Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst; founded in 1965 to support educational goals of members. Academic programs, shared administrative and faculty positions, bus system, joint library catalog, fiber optic network, open cross course registration. Institutional and program grants Small central office staff

  5. What did we do? Information requested by Booz Allen: • Organizational info • Policies and Procedures • Financial info Five Month Process: mail, email and phone calls • Responded as quickly as we could: • Created spreadsheet to understand the request • Organized our policy and procedure documents • Reviewed and updated documents • Created new documents Filled a 3 inch binder

  6. Site Visit • NSF team visited 3 days in July • Brought Booz Allen list of issues • Meetings, document review, closing session • Toured campus labs to see equipment (MRI) • Met with PI • Final report expected in October, not yet received

  7. Lessons Learned • Opportunity to review and update policies and procedures. • Be proactive! Written procedures are key. • Be quick to respond to all requests. • Support your position; push back. • Document the process with a paper trail, notes and emails.
