Characters • Hector: a Trojan Prince, The leader of the Trojans in the Trojan War • Diomedes: The most powerful Achaean besides Achilles • Athena: the goddess of wisdom, weaving, crafts, and war • Helen: the most beautiful mortal women in Greek mythology • Glaucos: captain of the Lycian army, an army that were allies with Troy

  3. Achaean • In this book they have the upper hand • They out number the Trojans • Nestor wants to kill the Trojans while they have the chance • Forced the Trojans near the city • Moral is high

  4. Trojans • They are over powered • The gods have left them • They are out numbered • Have retreated back to the city • Hector tries to keep his men ready for battle • Hector prays for help

  5. Plot • The retreat of the Trojans • The abandonment of the gods • The Achaeans pressure the Trojans • Hector returns home • The return of Paris

  6. Rising Action • The gods leave the Trojans • The Achaean take advantage of the lonely Trojans to overpower them • Telamonia Aias broke into a Trojan battalion • Achaean moral boosted • The Achaean pushed the Trojans near the city

  7. Climax • Menelos refuses Adrestos ransom offer • Nestor says sensethe enemy is weak kill as much as possible. • Hector and Aineias are told by Helenos Priamides to be good leaders for many watch them. • Hector and his men standout side of the city waiting for the Achaean army • Hector tells his men to stand there ground even against the odds.

  8. Falling Action • Helenus tells Hector to return to his mother and her royal servants to pray in the Temple of Athena. • Hector follows the orders • Hector meets his mother at Priam’s Palace • He tells his mother, Queen Hecuba, the orders from Helenus • She carries out the orders • Hector visits his brother Paris. • He urges Paris to return to battle along his side and Paris agrees.

  9. Thoughts of the heroes • Hector- “ I can’t show a sign of weakness. If my men find out I don’t know what to do they will worry.” • Nestor- “Don’t strip the Trojans of there weapons. Finish the job, kill them.” • Paris- “The tables have turned and my people need help. I must rejoin the fight.” • Achaeans- “We have the Trojans on the ropes. We have this.” • Trojans- “We need help and we need it fast. We can not let the enemy know that we are weak.”

  10. Summary • Achaean pressured the Trojans • Trojans retreated toward the city • Nestor wants to kill as many Trojans as they can while they are stronger. • Helen tells Hector to tell his mother and other noblewomen to pray at the Temple of Athena. • Hector forces his brother, Paris to rejoin the battle along side the Trojan forces.
