  2. Why is it necessary to plan Risk Communication? • Because the planning is the basis of the Risk Communication process. • Because the lack of planning can lead to an erroneous program which will cause problems in the community.

  3. Steps • Seek sources of information • Form a communication team • Build trust in the target public • Develop the communication plan • Establish audience priorities

  4. Topics for the community to react to • Health • Safety • Economy (property values) • Environment • Others (aesthetic aspects, commercial development, political affairs)

  5. Questions for the community to answer about the topics of interest to them • What is your main concern? • What kind of information do you need? • How frequently would you like to be informed and updated on this matter? • Where do you usually get your information from?

  6. Questions for the community to answer about the topics of interest to them (Continued) • Does any group require special information? • How do you want to receive the information? • Which means of communication do you prefer? • Is any dialect spoken in the community?

  7. Involve the community in the planning • In the process of Risk Communication a determining factor is community involvement. • It will help you gain the trust and support of the community and will provide you with important information about their concerns.

  8. Assessment of Health Risk Communication Systematic assessment will enable you to discover: • Whether you have reached the target population • Whether your messages have been effective • Whether the communication has led to a change in behavior
