Today we will discuss… • Review of Graduation Requirements • The College Search Process • Junior/Senior Year Timeline • Required Standardized Testing/Dates (SAT/ACT/SAT Subject Tests) • Letters of Recommendation • Financial Aid/Scholarships • Resume Builder (Naviance) • Summer Enrichment Program Opportunities • Naviance Activities

The CHS College Search Process & Junior/Senior Year Timeline • Where should you be now? • Developing a list of schools that you are considering and visiting those colleges- Your list can be big right now but eventually should be narrowed to approx 4-8 schools (with a range of characteristics: i.e. size, cost, competitiveness) Be sure to add these to your Colleges I’m Thinking About List in Naviance • Review the Coventry High School College Admission Handbook (In Naviance and on CHS website) • Course Selection: Choose the most challenging course load for you- most colleges want to see at least Q1 Senior year grades before making an admissions decision and they will take into consideration the level of challenge of those courses

Where should you be now? • Schedule a Junior Student/Parent meeting with your School Counselor • Begin creating your resume with activities to date (Naviance Resume Builder) **Can use in E-Portfolio Project** • Register for the SAT or ACT (See packet for deadlines) • FYI: SAT & ACT Prep in Naviance- See Naviance Home Page (PrepMe) • Your colleges may also require you to take the SAT II- Subject Tests. You will need to check the requirements for each school. To register for the SAT II’s go to: www.collegeboard.org/register • Continue to dedicate yourself to your studies- Junior year performance is extremely important as it is the last full year that colleges will see on your high school transcript • Get/Stay Involved in school/community activities

Where should you be now? • Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.eligibilitycenter.org if you are planning on playing Division I or Division II sports in college • Continue to visit colleges Remember: Some colleges will track the interest of students and use this info in their admissions decision. Request an interview if offered/required. • Attend Area College Fairs (April 11-12 CT Convention Center- Hartford, CT) • Stay involved- Colleges are interested in the well rounded student- resume building activities • Keep all login info in a safe place (see login sheet) • Meet with your School Counselor to review your plan and ask questions • Develop a timeline/action plan based on the application deadlines of the schools you are considering

In the Months Ahead • Develop a timeline/action plan based on the application deadlines of the schools you are considering • Request Letters of Recommendation before you leave for summer break • Narrow your list of schools (4-8) • Continue college visits • Review Admission Requirements of the schools you are considering • Take necessary standardized tests (SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests) • Review Summer Enrichment Opportunities to add to that resume
