What Stirs Your Heart • vs 22 • Drawing near is not just “Church Attendance” • What stirs your heart toward Jesus? • Who or What, when you’re doing it, reading it, a part of it, stirs your mind toward Jesus? • Examples: Early morning devotionals, sermons on tape, nature, service, scriptures, reflecting life in a cemetery. • It will involve scriptures and prayer Hebrews - Lesson 11
What Robs Your Affection • Who or What robs your heart from wanting to know and walk in the fullness of Jesus? • Longing desire for God • Everyone’s list will look different • Examples: Vegging out to hours and hours of TV or Movies, Sports obsession, work obsession, Political obsession Hebrews - Lesson 11
Stimulate One Another • Read Hebrews 10:24-25 • Consider is the Greek word meaning “think” • How do we stimulate one another towards more love and good deeds? • Writer tells us……. • Not forsaking the assembling together and encouragement. • Church Attendance only? Or doing life together? Hebrews - Lesson 11
Six Warnings • Warning against drifting from “the things we have heard” (Heb 2:1-4) • Warning against disbelieving the “voice” of God (Heb 3:7-14) • Warning against degenerating from “the elementary principles of Christ” (Heb 5:11-6:20) • Warning against despising “the knowledge of the truth” (Heb 10:26-39) • Warning against devaluing “the grace of God” (Heb 12:15-17) • Warning against departing from Him “who speaks” (Heb 12:25-29 Hebrews - Lesson 11
Christ or Judgment • Read Hebrews 10:26-31 • When we are sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth there is no longer a sacrifice for sins • The Tabernacle is CLOSED • If one rejects Christ as the way of salvation there is no other way Hebrews - Lesson 11

Faith • Faith Moves, it anticipates, it always perseveres. • Read James 2:14-20 & Trentham • Martin Luther called the book of James “The Epistle of Straw” • In the stories we are about to read, these saints MOVED on their faith. • It is not static, it conquers, it grows, it shakes or is not faith. Gaining Approval • Read Hebrew 11:2-7 • Enoch in vs 5 • 65 year old man who walked with God. Never tasting death. • Noah – Built an Ark 1000 times too big for his family approximately 500 miles from the ocean Hebrews - Lesson 11
Noah • Some of the weight might be lost with pajamas • Noah took God at His word. Staked everything on it • He had to lay aside his normal activities and work/concentrate on Gods commands. • This choice comes to everyone…. • Either listen to, or to disregard the message of God Hebrews - Lesson 11
Faith of Abraham & Joseph • Read Hebrews 11:8-22 • Abraham left everything (family, safety, security) and had no idea where he was going • In the ancient world the fate of a stranger was hard (not like moving from Arkansas) • Vs 13 God promised Abraham a city but he died in a tent • Vs 22 Joseph gave orders concerning his bones Hebrews - Lesson 11

Conclusion of the Matter • Read Hebrews 11:39-40 • Thoughthese heroes were allcommended for their faith, they did not receive the promise. • Clearly pointing to Jesus • A story that began before us and will play out long after us if Christ tarries. • “something better”in verse 40 sums up all the arguments of Hebrews 1:1- 10:18 Hebrews - Lesson 11
