GENERALLY • The Izaak Samuel Kijne Theological School of Higher Learning for the Evangelical Church (GKI) in Papua was begun on September 21, 1954. Its purpose is to prepare pastors to serve in the Evangelical Church in Papua (GKI). • The I.S. Kijne Theological School offers two courses of study—Theology and Christian Education. 512 students are registered for the 2005-2006 Academic Year. The school has 32 professors educated at the Masters and Doctoral level.
LIBRARY • The I.S. Kijne Theological School’s library measures 65 by 12 square meters and offers 2 book rooms, one reading room, and one administrative office. The library houses 28,264 books consisting of 14,945 titles. This collection is in English, Indonesian, Dutch, as well as in traditional Papuan languages. • In addition to these titles, the library houses collections of journals, magazines, and local, national, and international newspapers. The reading room of the library holds up to 80 readers.
The average number of visitors is approximately 40 students per day, both from within the Theological school and from other areas. The average number of titles borrowed each day is between 25 and 30. • The library uses a closed system for book borrowing. It’s cataloguing is based on the Dewey Decimal Classification. In 2005, the library worked together with New Spektra in order to form a Virtual Library across Indonesia.
