Daily Learning Goal 4.3 Heidi Glickert www.heidiglickert.weebly.com Spiritual Anthropology West
Prayer • God, my Friend, I offer You each moment of this day: whatever comes—the unexpected challenges, diversions from my plans, the need-filled glance, the expectations and complaints, the being taken for granted, the slights and sleights-of-hand. I’d be grateful if You could keep me aware of my pesky habits, like (insert pesky habit here)And, between us, perhaps we can enliven the spirits of those I live and work with, like (insert names)Whatever else befalls, I trust we can cope with it, together. • Praised be the Incarnate Word. • Forever. Amen.
Daily Learning Goal 4.3 • My website: www.heidiglickert.weebly.com • Evaluate how particular (eight) spiritual exercises can transform the busyness of everyday life and impact your spiritual life (benefits and challenges) and interpret the importance of routine
The Eight Spiritual Exercises • The following eight exercises are to help transform the busyness of everyday life: • 1. Do one thing at a time • 2. Transform daily activities into sacred rituals • 3. Transform interruptions into wakeup calls • 4. Three Breaths • 5. Take regular breath meditations (or contemplative prayer) • 6. Sustained concentration on the breath • 7. First Breath, Last Breath • 8. Repeat the name of God
Importance of Routine • Set aside time for prayer or meditation or something that works for you that helps calm your mind. • This is to help you give full attention to something that really matters • Start off slow and develop as time goes on. • Like many things in life, it takes time to get good at something.
Activity • Draw a stressful activity/an activity that keeps you busy from the pile. Explain what spiritual exercise you would choose to overcome it and come up with a routine to get back on track.
