My Plan for Getting into the Polytechnic Institute of New York University By: WanTian Lin
It is a research and development university, which provides bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and PhD to engineering and science areas. It is one of the most earliest technologic institute in the United States. NYU-Polyhas distinguished history in civil, electrical, construction, and mechanical engineering.
Admission Process: • Application on commonapp com. • Official transcript • SAT , ACT, or TOEFL score • Personal essay • 2 letters of recommendation • Application fee $65
Programs and Degrees: • 15 majors in bachelor of science degree • 38 kinds master of science • one master of engineering • 10 PhD • 24 certificate programs
Summer of the 10th Grade: Goal #1: General admission requires 550 SAT verbal, and 640 SAT Math scores. Strategy: • Memorize 5 key SAT words, and do 10 math questions each day. • Give yourself a small vocabulary quiz on each Sunday. • Train your speed by reading one article from the Time magazine, or the New York Time, in a limited time period.
Academic life in Junior year: Goal #2: NYU-Poly evaluates students’ potential ability in Polythinking. Strategy: • Participating in technology team in your school, such as LESP Lego Robotic Team, and Mouse Squad. • Join science fair competition, and try your best to win the first place. • Do some volunteer works that are related to environment.
Summer in Junior year: Goal #3: keep memorizing SAT words and reading articles. Do two example SAT tests each week. Goal #4: start to write your first college essay. Usually, the topic is about describing your life experience. Goal #5: make a draft for your college resume. Goal #6: look for other colleges that is appropriate to your major.
Senior year: • Take your first SAT I test on October. • Take your SAT II (Subject tests) on November. • Take the second SAT I test on December. • Apply for NYU-Poly. • Ask your college counselor or other teachers to correct your college essays and resume. • Apply for some scholarship. • Apply for the FAFSA and TAP.
HEOP Admission: • SAT score is not at the standard. • Low IRS income. • Good high school academic performance. • High potential in college study.
