It indicates that the objectives of local government are: • Provide democratic and accountable government to local communities; • To ensure the provision of service to communities in a sustainable manner; • To promote social and economic development; • To promote a safe and healthy environment; and • To encourage the involvement of communities and community organizations in the matters of local government.

Six Priority Tourism Projects Emanating from Tourism Strategy • Relocate and refurbish the Tourism info centre in Newcastle and Utrecht, with satellite stations at strategic locations • Develop a brand for Amajuba • Establish a district events strategy in order to manage and co-ordinate events • Amajuba Dams Revitalisation Programme which aims to improve infrastructure at five dams across Amajuba • Improve implementation of the Tourism Grading Councils star grading system in Amajuba and encourage Service excellence • Conduct research in order to understand Amajuba current tourism market segments and economic impact on all tourism products
