  4. Spring • The muddy season in Berlin, this is the perfect time to start planting and enjoying the slightly warmer weather

  5. Summer • Warm weather with some rain, summer in Berlin usually consists of sunny days with a temperature of about 80

  6. Autumn Foliage • The nicest season, Autumn is the time when most people come to visit Berlin because of the vibrant colors of the leaves as they get ready to shed for winter

  7. Winter • The Harshest of the four seasons , winter in the north country usually comes with a fair amount of snow and ice

  10. French Influences in Berlin • The most noticeable Influence is the French influence in Berlin due to a French immigration from Canada for jobs working for the Brown Company when Berlin was beginning

  11. Historical Places of Berlin

  12. Our Towns Catholic Church • Saint Anne's • St. Anne Church was erected on the same site that was home to Berlin's first Catholic church. Construction began in 1899, and while the project actually took close to ten years to complete, the first mass was celebrated in May of 1901. It is interesting to note that it was built bit by bit, year by year, with money raised by the parishioners

  13. Holy Resurrection Church / Orthodox • Built in 1915, the Holy Resurrection Church is an excellent example of Byzantine eclectic style. • The Holy Resurrection Church is the only Orthodox Church in the North Country and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

  14. The Berlin Mills • The paper mill provides many jobs for the citizens of Berlin

  16. Berlin Logging Past and Present

  17. Logging Camps • A past time of Berlin, the logging camps were places where loggers would stay after a long day of driving logs

  18. The Boom Piers • The small islands in the river were used to separate the logs of two companies as they were being transported to the factories

  19. The Moffett House • Built in 1853 by H. Winslow and Company, the Brown Company House is one of the oldest wood framed structures in Berlin. It served as a temporary boarding facility for those coming to the mill. Newly arriving mill workers lived on the third floor, while the second floor was reserved for housing visiting company executives and VIP's

  20. Notre Dame Arena • The Arena is a big part of Berlins history because it is the home of the most popular hobby in the city: Ice Hockey. • In the Past Berlin used to house Boston Bruins Alumni events.

  21. City Hall • This building is important because it holds the town records and registration offices

  22. Berlin Library • 34,724 books • 1,212 audio materials • 1,094 video materials • 179 serial subscriptions • The Library was built in 1903 with a $15,000 grant from the Andrew Carnegie Endowment Fund.

  23. Main Street • Main street is the only source of local shopping in Berlin, since it is a small city the shopping is limited Berlin had two opera houses, an orchestra, and three theaters. It was the first northern New Hampshire town to have street lighting, and a trolley ran between Berlin and Gorham, a few miles south.

  24. Our Police Dept • Located near the center of town. The police Department is always here to protect and serve.

  26. Festival du boius • This festival celebrates the rich French heritage in Berlin through a variety of old songs and French foods

  27. Lilac Festival • This festival was designed to celebrate the beauty of the state flower

  28. Lumberjack Weekend • A series of competitions designed to remind the new generations of Berlins traditions

  29. Drive into the 50’s • This car show is held once a year and gives old timers a chance to show off their beautiful hot rods

  30. Berlin Education from Beginning to End

  31. Our Bus Transportation • Ahhhh ….The big yellow bus. Many students begin and end there day with the bus syndrome.

  32. Marston School ( Kindergarten) • 106 Students attend morning or afternoon classes to prepare for grade school

  33. Brown School ( Grades 1-3) • 166 Students on the east side of Berlin attend this school for their grade school education

  34. Bartlett School (Grades 1-3) • 117 Students on the west side attend this school for their grade school education

  35. St. Michaels Catholic School (Grades Pre-K – 6) • 121 Students attend this private school for their grade school , and middle school education with religious influences

  36. Hillside Elementary (Grades 4 – 6) • 359 Students are taught the fundamentals (Math, writing, Reading, History, and Science) they will need for success in their Jr. High and High School years

  37. Berlin Jr. High (Grades 7 & 8) • 286 Students attend Berlin Jr. High as a final preparation for the High School Burned down in 1925

  38. Berlin High School (Grades 9 - 12) • 581 Students take educational and vocational classes to prepare for their futures

  39. Berlin High History Class 2006 • Oh just another High school day in History Class. Don’t we look like we work hard???

  40. Berlin High School Vocational Courses Our School is lucky to have classes where students can do hands on work that contributes to the town. - Building trades class-

  41. Berlin Community Technical College • For those that want to stay in town and further their education this college offers many vocational classes

  42. Berlin’s Down Home Entertainment

  43. Entertainment • Many festivals, plays and parades are held in the city for the enjoyment of the citizens

  44. Theater North • The major source of play entertainment in the city, this is the only non school related drama club

  45. Concerts • Concerts are usually held at the Berlin Jr. High, or High School gymnasium and showcase the talent of either band

  46. Berlins Interesting and Unusual Hobbies

  47. Hockey Town • Once known for its love of hockey the city was nicknamed hockey town after they won the 1967 state championship

  48. Championships • The last team, from Berlin, to win the state championship was the 1967 Maroons

  49. Hobbies of “Berlinites” • Many “Berlinites” spend their time performing outdoor activities and participating in city activities

  50. Fishing ,Hunting • Due to the many forests , lakes, and rivers Berlin is a vital place for fishing, Hunting, biking, Hiking ect.
