“It all began under the light of day somewhere near a large metal structure; the sun was high above me, the cool breeze disturbing my sleep. The world around me was abandoned and quiet, all around was dead grassy grounds and strange metal buildings akin to temples” “I didn’t wake up alone, a girl named Alex found me before I awoke, she’d also found a satchel with the name ‘Lightly’ written inside”
“I didn’t know for sure but I accepted that I must’ve been Lightly… but I still felt lost, Alex recognised my situation and offered help, posing confidently” “It was nice that Alex wanted to help… even if we were both clueless, to start off we looked at the temple ruins around us. Everything looked derelict, worn down by time and lifeless… lifeless up until Alex and I caught sight of something… frightening”
“We ran across the ruins in a panic, I took a few chances to look over my shoulder at it, regardless of the distance between us it was no less terrifying. • There was no time for stopping but I could feel my legs starting to ache, and soon the pain began to trip me up” “The creature looked like it was made of ink, black smoke resonated from its body, and its blank white eyes were staring menacingly at me. Alex grabbed me and we started running and I could hear it screeching loudly as it began chasing us”
“Alex managed to spot a safe looking part of the ruin, some kind of metal dome ravaged by time. • We both made for the dome, taking every opportunity to try and obstruct the creature, but once we reached the dome it seemed to vanish. • Alex was able to get us inside by forcing a door open” • “Once inside we discovered an armoury, most of the weapons were broken and useless; all except a few swords and shields. • Alex knew well what to do with them, but I had no idea”
“Alex looked at me with concern; with only a few moments to spare she rushed me into a hiding place to keep me safe. • “Stay here” she said before clutching a sword tightly and approaching the entrance she’d made” • “I peered out from my hiding place to see Alex and the creature fighting ferociously like animals; every time they clashed I felt my heart skip”
“I felt scared and lost all over again… like nothing could help me, but just then… I felt something else, some kind of… drive. • The fear became empowering as if reshaping inside me into something new, something that felt nothing like me… something strong” • “I felt scared and lost all over again… like nothing could help me, but just then… I felt something else, some kind of… drive. • The fear became empowering as if reshaping inside me into something new, something that felt nothing like me… something strong”
“I opened my eyes, wondering what had happened, I could see the mangled corpse of the creature, crippled and dented, Alex had me in her arms, it was then that I realised, I’d passed out, the rush was too much for me to take” • “Closer and closer I closed the gap, raising the hammer over my left shoulder. • I let out a not very intimidating cry and closed my eyes as I swung”
“After a while Alex carried me from the armoury to a small camp outside the ruin where I could rest properly” • “After some time Alex asked me about joining her, not a difficult question to answer, and I think she knew that, so when I said yes she didn’t seem too surprised”
“That night we planned for our next destination, a city far north of the ruins before turning in for the night, ready for whatever the following day may throw our way”
