A low back muscle strain occurs when the muscle fibers are abnormally stretched or torn. • Back Injuries can occur because of poor physical condition, stress, or poor posture.
How to Prevent Back Injuries? • Sleep on your side (w/ knees slightly bent) or on your back (w/ pillow under knees) • Avoid twisting at the waist when carrying or lifting a heavy load • Carry awkward loads with the heaviest side closest to your body • Taking frequent short (micro) breaks particularly when working in awkward positions
Hold heavy loads close to you. • When you pick something up with jerky movements you can injure your back. • Pick things up with slow smooth movements using your legs.
Rather than using your back like a crane allow your legs to do the work by bending at the knees while lifting
