Question 3What have I learnt from our audience feedback?Film Title ‘Bruv’Verity Keeley
Considering our Target Audience Once our film was done we put it up on YouTube for the world to see and judged, we then disused and decided what was the way to show our film to a big group of people at the same time and get feedback; keeping our target audience in mind we choose to play it in front of our class mates. We chose them because they are all in the target audience age range 15-24, the class are also all from different backgrounds and different parts of Brighton, with this type of variety in the audiences, feedback their would be different opinions, on weather, our film, is how they have seen/see Things and would they say it does work as Social Realism film as they know people or they can relate to the film and the characters struggles.
Method of research The method of research we have decided to use, was showing our film to the class, we decided agents posting our link from YouTube on to Facebook because, first we might not get any feedback, we can’t monitor nor find out everyone who has watched the clip to case down for feedback and last of all people might not take it seriously. Showing our peace to the class seemed the best way to get honest feedback. To be able to recorded the information we needed we decided to create a questionnaire, we chose this way because it’s simple and keeps the questions and answers consistent and wouldn’t get muddled up and become confusing.
Method of research The questions we asked our audiences • Is the Genre clear? • Are you able to follow the narrative? • Are the characters typical of the Genre? • What comments would you make about the sound track? • Please provide a positive and a negative overall about our trailer? The reason why we decided to ask these question was because there simple, get straight to the point, doesn’t influence answers and gives a chance for the audience to tell us what to improve on and what they think worked. Most questioners limit the answers people can give so we tried to ask open questions, but in doing this most of the questions only needed yes or no answers.
Positive Feedback Once everyone did our questionnaire and gave them back to us we looked at what our audience said about our film trailer. The positive feedback we got from our trailer was: • Everyone understood/got the Genre of our film. • Said the characters are conventional this is good because we were going for the gang stereo type. • Sound got mostly good reviews from everyone: However there are a few people who disagree with the song chose we made and said we should of just stuck to the second song all the way though. • Good use of voice over’s • Good use of characters • Good lighting • Lots of good actors • Good Titles • Ending for the trailer was liked • Well edited
Negative Feedback The negative feedback we got from our trailer was: • The narrative was not obvious. • Some audiences members commented on how there could have been better use of music, need to be more voice over's and it needed to be more clear when there was some. • Repeated scenes • Not sure what some scenes were about • The punching in the soundtrack didn’t work The main thing that everyone complained/said on our questioner was that the narrative wasn’t obvious, with this being the most important part to selling a film we would of needed to fix it straight away, to do this we could of add in some more voice over's explaining the plot.
Feedback Once we finished looking at the questioner and what our audience said, we could see that there was more positive feedback than negative and lots of people said how they did enjoy watching our trailer. However we did not discard the negative feedback because of this. In fact we agreed on most of the criticisms we got from our audience. Such as some of the sound track not fitting in with the trailer, this could have been easily sorted out if we had a few more minutes in the edit sweet. Along with the voice over's we already knew in the edit sweet that they were quieter, than we thought whilst recording the voices, but however this was the second time we did the voice over again and we weren’t going to be able to get our actor back in another time to do it again until after the trailer had to be finished.
Feedback With the music most people preferred the second song and said how we should of just used that one. Originally we were planning on just using most of the first song that’s in The trailer the whole away though, but whilst editing we where told not to do this as it became less of a trailer and more of a music video. So only a part of the song was selected for the trailer. The second song was added in later after Michael realized that most Social Realism trailers have two songs, this song was put in later on in the trailer because the music sounds sad and we wanted it to go with the voice over explaining the narrative. If we had known what type of music our audience would of preferred we would of used this track a bit more. The reason why we wouldn’t use it for the whole is because we wouldn’t want to fall into the trap of making a music video instead of a trailer, it’s good to different types of music as it doesn’t make the film seem constantly tired to drama or fighting and also this peace of music would of gone with the begging bit of the trailer. Instead of just having the second song all the way though the trailer maybe change the first song to song else instead or having more of the lyrics not the tune.
Feedback After deciding that the negative feedback could of be easily resolved and ways we could of done it, we focused on the positive side of our feedback. Ever though people weren’t sure of the narrative, from the footage we shot, and the mis-en-scene that was used, everyone could tell that the Genre was Social Realism. Everyone found that our characters made it very clear that the Genre, Social Realism, was set about Gangs culture, this was very positive feedback to us because it meant we achieved the gang stereo type we were going for. A part from no one understanding the narrative being a downer on us and our film, we are pleased with the results of our trailer and it does feel like our time and effort did pay of from watching the trailer and seeing the results of our audience’s feedback.
