Mini-Holland Overview Part of the Mayor of London’s new ‘Vision for Cycling’. £100m of funding available to outer London borough’s. Investment to upgrade cycle infrastructure to ‘Dutch-standards’. LB Hounslow has submitted Stage 1 bid to TfL. 6-8 shortlisted boroughs chosen by the end of August 2013. Stage 2 funding bid from shortlisted boroughs due in October 2013. Successful boroughs chosen in November/December 2013.
Funding Criteria 1: A substantial redesign of the main town centre to make it genuinely excellent for cyclists 2: Redesigns of some of the secondary town centres 3: Addressing severance, where this is a problem: new cycle and pedestrian crossings of major roads, railway lines or waterways 4: A network of good cycle routes radiating out from the main town centre, and perhaps secondary centres, to other parts of the borough 5: Redesigns of problem junctions where they are used by cyclists: including along the A4, part of the TLRN 6: At least one good commuter route from the borough to central London 7: Cycle superhubs, with large amounts of secure cycle parking at local railway stations 8: Significant local marketing and promotional efforts
LBH Projects Over 25 projects costing £53m. Focus on high quality cycle infrastructure for cyclists on key road corridors; Cycle Superhighway 9, Staines Road, Bath Road, A4. Improved connections to town centres and a network of ‘quietway’ route on less busy roads and through parks. New bridges at pinch points on the road network, re-designs of selected major junctions. Better signage, way finding and cycle parking Public realm and pedestrian improvements.
Opportunities for The Golden Mile A number of local projects identified within the bid: Improvements to A4 corridor (TfL led). CS9 improvements to Chiswick Roundabout and Chiswick High Road. Quietways routes connecting to Brentford, Ealing, Southall and Richmond. Improved station cycle parking and a ‘super-hub’ at Turnham Green including Brompton Dock.
