  8. Facts about Child Maltreatment In the nation (2008) 3.3 million CPS referrals of child maltreatment. 772,000 child victims. 71% of all reported maltreatment is neglect Over 80% of perpetrators are parents More than ¾ of deaths are < 4 years old.

  12. What should you do when a parent or child discloses?

  13. How do you make a report? • You should contact CPS whenever you reasonably suspect a child has been abused or neglected or is subject to conditions where abu-se or neglect is likely to occur. • 1-800-635-1522 • CPS will accept your report and determine “Is the child safe or does the child need protected?”
