  2. Responsibilities Before you ride: • Read the owners manual. • Check the tires. • Check the controls. • Check the lights, turn signals, horn and mirrors. • Make sure the side stand and centre stand fold up and stay up. • If your motorcycle has a chain-drive to the rear wheel, make sure that the chain is properly tensioned and in good shape.

  3. Responsibilities On the road: • Make sure other drivers can see you. • When you're riding in traffic, at speeds under 40 mph, keep a two-second gap between you and thecar in front of you. • When you're out on the open road, at higher speeds, the gap should be three or four seconds or more, depending on your speed. • While passing always make sure you turn and check your blind spot with your head.

  4. Advice for motor cyclists • Get motor cycle serviced regularly. • Wear protective gear at all times. • Keep your bike clean. Dirt can disguise a potential problem. • Make sure you have insurance. • Resist the urge to speed. Every year a high percentage of riders are killed in accidents while speeding. • Never drink alcohol and get on a motor cycle.

  5. Slogan to remember Cars have bumpers. Bikers have bones. Drive aware.

  6. Safety gear • Wear a helmet. • Wear eye protection. • Gloves should be worn. • Wear high visibility gear. • Jackets should be made of sturdy material such as denim, nylon, corduroy, or leather. • Trousers should be made of thick material, such as leather, to resist abrasion. • Raingear makes riding in the rain easier.
