Brown Distinguished Professor in Chemistry • Awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010for creating a method of building complex organic molecules necessary for numerous purposes, from pharmaceutical manufacturing to electronics. • Applications include drug manufacturing, fluorescent marking that has been essential for DNA sequencing and creating materials for thin LED displays. • Rakesh AgrawalWinthrop E. Stone Distinguished Professor in Chemical Engineering • Awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from President Barack Obama, 2011 • For “… significant positive impacts on electronic device manufacturing, liquefied gas production and the supply of industrial gases for diverse industries.” • 116 U.S. patents, nearly 500 non-U.S. patents and 93 technical papers

  12. FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS Philip E. Nelson,the Scholle Chair Professor in Food Processing 2007 World Food Prize recipient for his discovery and work related to large-scale aseptic processing and sterilization. Gebisa Ejeta, Distinguished Professor of Agronomy and Director of Purdue’s Center for Global Food Security 2009 World Food Prize recipient for research leading to the increased production and availability of sorghum in his native Africa. Purdue is the only institution with two WFP winners.
