  1. Sex in Advertising By: Caroline BurnTeacher: Mr. YoungEMS 301-02Due: June 3, 2011

  2. Arby’s Hamburgers

  3. Women Depicted in a Sexualized Manner • The product being sold is Arby’s hamburgers. It is targeted to everyone but mostly men. The message that this advertisement is telling is that these hamburgers are as juicy as a pair of breasts. It’s obvious because it says “ We’re about to reveal something you’ll really drool over” underneath the picture of what looks like a pair of hamburgers taking the place of a pair of breasts. I disagree with this message because it’s dismembering a woman’s body for the use of entertainment. This advertisement is being appealed to the physical aspect of human sexuality. It’s a negative portrayal of sexuality and it objectives women.

  4. Dolce & Gabbana Calcio Underwear

  5. Men Depicted in Sexualized Manner • The product being sold is Dolce and Gabbana Calcio Underwear . It is targeted to young men. The message that this advertisement is telling men that if you wear this underwear you’ll look like this. It’s obvious because there is a row of tan male models with abs wearing nothing but that underwear so it must be the underwear that makes them that hot. I disagree with this message because no man looks like that, it’s giving false hope to men everywhere. This advertisement is being appealed to the physical aspect of human sexuality, because they’re wearing nothing but tight underwear. It’s a negative portrayal of sexuality. The men are exaggerated, they look very serious.

  6. Candie’s Fragrances for Men and Women

  7. A Couple Depicted in a Sexualized Manner • The product being sold is Candie’s Fragrances for man and women. It is targeted to men and women. The message that this advertisement is telling men and woman everywhere that if you use this perfume you’re going to get laid. It’s obvious because they’re in the washroom where people get ready (put on perfume) and it looks like they’re going to have sex right on the counter. I disagree with this message because giving false hope to people everywhere. This advertisement is being appealed to the physical aspect of human sexuality, it’s using the pleasure of sex to sell the product. It’s a negative portrayal of sexuality. The man is over the woman being dominant. His smile also shows that there’s male approval.

  8. A Couple Depicted in a Sexualized Manner • The woman is sitting on the counter wrapping her legs around the man with him in front of her. The man is in front of the mirror looking in the mirror with a smile on her face. The man is the foreground and the woman is in the background. The juxtaposition conveys the meaning that the male is in charge. Both the man and woman are active but the woman is more active. I would say that the woman is more eroticized because he legs are wrapped around that man’s waist tightly. This relationship shows me that she wants to have sex more but he’s the person who is in charge. She has to get what she wants from him. The man has all the power in the relationship. It’s a negative depiction of relationships because she needs him.

  9. Coca-Cola

  10. A Couple Depicted in a Non Sexualized Manner • The product being sold is Coca-Cola. It is targeted to everyone. All ages, genders, races but this article shows mostly teenagers. The message that this advertisement is telling is that Coca-Cola is delicious. It’s obvious because the teenagers seem really happy to be getting some Coca-Cola. I agree with this message because it’s not objectifying men or woman it’s just two happy teenagers. This advertisement is being appealed to the emotional aspect of human sexuality. It’s a positive portrayal of sexuality.

  11. A Couple Depicted in a Non Sexualized Manner • The woman is smiling and leaning her body and head towards the man. The man leaning towards the woman. No one is in the foreground of background, they’re beside each other. The juxtaposition conveys the meaning that the both of them are equal. They place cups of Coca-Cola between them because that’s the product they’re selling. Both the man and woman are active. I would say that the woman is more eroticized because her head and body are towards the man but not by much. This relationship shows me that she likes him a tad more but not by much. I don’t think either of them has the power in the relationship, I would say there equal. It’s a positive depiction of this relationship because both of them are equal.
