Elaboration: First Iteration

This phase involves selecting important use cases, architectural planning, risk evaluation, domain modeling, and partial implementations for the Point of Sale (POS) system. A short workshop identifies actors, goals, and risky use cases to address in the first iteration. The focus is on extending use case and domain models, handling core risks quickly, and progressing through 2-5 iterations to manage requirements efficiently. Artifacts include Use Case Models, Domain Models, Design Models, and Data Models.

  1. Elaboration: First Iteration • Select most important use case(s) • Architectural • Risk • These have to be • Fully dressed • Expressed in Use case Model • Extended into Domain Model • Sometime may need to start with partial use case • POS first iteration • Partial Sale • StartUp • Shutdown?

  2. POS First Iteration

  3. Inception Summary • Hours to week • Short requirements workshop • Actors, goals, uses cases identified • Risk evaluated, risky use cases plus some others fully dressed • Those to be handled first extended to Use Case Model • Rough domain model • Some Supplementary Specification • Plan for the first iteration

  4. Elaboration Summary • 2-5 iterations until core risk is handled • 90% of requirements, 10-20% of implementation • Artifacts: • Use Case Models for most use cases • Domain Model • Design Model • Dat Model, etc.
