Eco Fact of the Week • A recent study by the UN revealed that 41.8 million pounds of e-waste were discarded in 2015. Furthermore, over 90 percent of this e-waste was found to be illegally exported or dumped. What is “recycled” is sometimes sent to third-world countries in Africa and Asia to be cleaned/incinerated by workers in sweatshop-like conditions, causing much danger to public health. If you have any old electronics you would like to discard, please make sure to dispose of them responsibly at the designated e-waste drop off locations SSS has around the school. • Vignesh Viswanath, President, Students for Sustainable Schools, Hamilton Branch
