Guidelines • Work in pairs (choose wisely, I will change you if I want to) • Will present projects to class in a 3-5 minute presentation • Must choose 1 aspect of Greek life or event to research and • Create a power point with certain specifications to cover • Sign up list will come around – “First come first serve” • Only one pair per topic • Sign up list to present will come soon • Need to use: • 3 books (textbook can be one) • 4 Internet sources • 7-10 slides; plus title and work cited page

  3. Work cited page • Should have: • Book - Title, author, copy right date/year, and page #s found it on • Web Site - Title, author, copy right date/year (if there is one), paragraph #, and web page – WWW._____.com

Topics to Choose from: • God- • Zeus • Poseidon • Athena • Ares • Hades • War- • Trojan War • Persian War • Leaders- • Alexander the Great • Pericles • Philosophers- • Socrates • Plato • Games- • Olympics • Literature- • Homer (Iliad & Odyssey) • Lyric Poetry • Aesop’s Fables • Art • Sculpture • Architecture Remember, one group per topic

  5. Greek Gods: • What they are the god of, what they are known for • What is associated with this god? Why? • What is their relationship to the other main Greek Gods and people? • Did this god have a family? • What stories or myths are centered on this god? Some major accomplishments… • How did people worship this god? • Monuments, temples, shrines that were built in honor of god.

  6. Greek War: • Who was the war against? Why were they fighting in the first place? • When and where did this war take place? Create a timeline for this war. • Describe all major battles and events of the war. • What was the result of the war? What was the lasting effect on Greece from the war?

  7. Greek Leader or Philosopher: • Background information (date & place of birth & death) • Major events that happened in that person’s life. • What are they known for throughout history? • What did they contribute to Greek society? • Were their contributions positive or negative for Greek society and did they have lasting consequences for the Empire?

  8. Greek Literature • Describe this type of literature • Why was it so influential to Greek society? Why is it still so important today? • Examples of this type of writing • Translated examples of Greek literature • Find 1 famous Greek author known for this type of writing and write a biography about them and give an example of their writing.

  9. Greek Games: • When and where did the games start • Why were they created? • What did the original games consist of? Describe each of the games that made up the Olympics. • How long did the games last? Who participated (country)? • What did the winners get?

Greek Art: • What makes it unique? • Why were they created? • List and describe the different types of ancient Greek architecture/sculptures? • How long did they last? • Name and discuss at least 2 Greek architects/sculpturist • Explain how Greek architecture influences today's architecture/sculpture?
