The Beginning. Pick up a whiteboard, a marker, and an eraser from the front of the room. Find your assigned seat. Make sure all electronic devices are off and out of sight. No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom. Take out a sheet of paper and a pencil. Welcome to Varsity Math.

  1. The Beginning • Pick up a whiteboard, a marker, and an eraser from the front of the room. • Find your assigned seat. • Make sure all electronic devices are off and out of sight. • No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom. • Take out a sheet of paper and a pencil.

  4. Rules and Procedures • Take home Rules sheet and review with a parent or guardian • Take home Student Information Sheet to be completed • Sign the back of the Student Info sheet and have parent/guardian sign as well • Due next class period—counts as part of first homework grade

  5. Student Self-Reflection • On a sheet of paper in your notebook or binder, please take a couple of minutes to answer these questions based on your own experiences: • Am I a “good” student? • If so, what makes me “good”? If not, how can I improve? • What is the most important goal for me in this class? • What will it take for me to be successful in this class?

  6. Whiteboard Warmup Question • On the graphing side of the whiteboard, write the slope-intercept form of a linear equation that passes through the two points (4,1) and (-2,3). Then graph the line. Put your marker down when you’re done (3-minute time limit). Compare your answer with a student sitting beside you.

  8. Varsity Math? • Work with the student sitting beside you. One of you will write on a whiteboard. • Take about five minutes to think about how Algebra II Honors and a varsity sport are alike and how they are different. • On the plain side of the whiteboard write your responses in one column for similarities and one column for differences. • Need two volunteers to record data on the classroom whiteboard.

  10. Diagnostic Assessment • Questions from Algebra I covering basic content • Work out all problems on a separate sheet of paper • Complete by next class period • Be prepared to put problems on the board for the class from your work (not just answers!!) • Counts as part of first homework grade
