  2. Programme Eucalypts meet genomics • Eucalypts (Eucalyptusspp) are among the most planted hardwoods in the world. Eucalypts are grown for timber, firewood, chemicals, soil reclamation, and pulp. E. globulus account for almost one third of Portuguese forest surface and 87.7% of pulp production. • With relative small genome , and increasing genetic and genomic tools (genetic and physical maps, QTLS, EST collections and BAC libraries), eucalypts are considered a new tree model to study wood formation, stress response, and comparative genomics . The whole genome sequence of E. grandis(8x coverage) are now available (http://web.up.ac.za/eucagen/). • This meeting is one occasion to share the state of the art on Eucalypts genomics and to present and discuss the main results obtained in the frame of the FCT funded projects GenEglobWq(PTDC/AGR-GPL/66564/2006) and microEgo (PTDC/AGR-GPL/098179/2008). • Registration: • Participation in the meeting is free but registration is required for all participants. • Deadline for registration: 3th December 2010. • Please provide the following information: • Name and title, Institution and function, email and telephone • Contact:  • Email: iribeiro@itqb.unl.pt
