Poster: Angry Contributed by Emma Begil The poster is being designed to be used in every classroom and common place in the Pupil Referral Unit (15-16 years old kids) This poster follows the same principles as the rules posters or news displays, which are being very visible and catch the audience attention, so that the kids can see them every day and memorise what they say. Although anger is a normal, healthy emotion, managing it can be a problem, in special for young people who very often find difficult to handle any emotion. In my opinion, nowadays kids in general and more specific teenagers should be trained in recognising the signs of anger, since if they are aware of them they can take responsibility of what their body is telling them, and then take steps to calm them down before reacting. Unfortunately, lack of anger control is a common issue between the young people from the PRU, thus I find that my resource could be quite useful in the Centre. Using the following suggestion might help. Talk: say to a person that is making you angry, how you feel (but not an angry voice) Think what you can do to sort it out. Walk away: if you need some time to "cool down" then try to do until you feel ready to talk to the person calmly. Don't lash out: This never solves problems and will get you into trouble. Go somewhere quiet to think over exactly what is making you angry. Try to listen to the person who is making you angry: Don't refuse to listen to what other people have to say. Don't use violence. Don't break objects in the room or throw things about.
