MinorCharacters The other less important characters are called minor characters. They interact with the main character and help to move the plot along.
Key Standard Reading Standard 3.3 Analyze characterization as delineated through a character’s thoughts, words, speech patterns, and actions; the narrator’s description; and the thoughts, words, and actions of other characters.
Characterization The way a writer creates and develops a character.
Direct Characterization The narrator names the character’s traits. “She was a large woman with a large purse that had everything in it but hammer and nails.” -Thank You M’am, by Langston Huges
Traits are qualities in a character’s personality, such as gentleness, boldness, loyalty, or determination.
Character traits affect the way a character acts or reacts to situations and other characters.
