Possible Outcomes – Engineering ScienceParts A & B combined • Classified honours(Class 2.2 or above) If Class 2.2 or above is achieved at the first attempt, then the candidate normally proceeds to Part C, although they may choose to leave after Part B with a classified B.A. (Hons). If Class 2.2 or above is achieved at a second (or later) attempt at Part B, then the candidate leaves after Part B with a B.A. (Hons), classified as appropriate. • Classified honours (Class 3) Candidates in this category leave with a classified B.A. (Hons). 8. Setting and Marking – Engineering Papers A1 – A4 (3 hour written papers) • eight questions, from which candidates may attempt five • each question is worth 20 marks • Examiners set and mark written papers with the aim of achieving a mean mark in the lower/middle range of the 2.i band. • If a median mark in the middle range of the 2.i band is not achieved, then the marks are adjusted to give such a median for all candidates sitting the paper. 9. Setting and Marking – Engineering • If a candidate does not achieve an adjusted mark of 30 or more on a A paper the examiners responsible for that paper re-check the marks and seek re-marking if necessary. • In agreeing a final mark the Chairman will, if necessary, adjudicate. • If, on the basis of this, the candidate’s adjusted mark is confirmed as being below 30, the candidate will be deemed to have failed that paper. 10. Engineering Coursework Papers A5 Practical Work • The marks for the practicals are reported to the examiners by the Chairman of the Faculty.  • Marks for these two papers falling in the range 40 – 100 will be adjusted by the examiners to map into the range 40 – 85. Marks below 40 will not be adjusted. • Each candidate will be given the opportunity by the Faculty Office to check their Engineering Labwork record in 6th Week of Trinity Term (via Weblearn). The information will NOT be available BEFORE this time. • CWM records will not be available until 9th week Eng Sci Finals Part A

11. Engineering Coursework A candidate with a mark below 30 on an Engineering Coursework paper (A5) will be deemed to have failed that paper. Eng Sci Finals Part A

12. Classification of Parts A & B combined The examiners use the following class boundaries: First/2.i 70% 2.i/2.ii 60% 2.ii/Third 50% Third/Pass 40% Pass/Fail 30% Eng Sci Finals Part A

14. Publication of Results We hope to publish results by the end of 11th Week Trinity Term It is stressed that this timing is provisional. Your Paper marks will be available via the ‘Student Self-Service’. Eng Sci Finals Part A

15. Conduct of Examinations • All papers will be sat in the Examination Schools. • Sub-fusc must be worn. • Exams start promptly at 9.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. • You may not leave within the first half-hour. • You may not leave in the last half-hour. • Make sure you know the ‘Code’ for your Course: Engineering Science Part A – XESA Eng Sci Finals Part A

16. Conduct of Examinations • You must bring your University Card to the Schools and display it on your desk. • Make sure you know your CANDIDATE NUMBER as you need to write it on your scripts. • Bring any letters authorising you to have special materials or medication in the examination room. • HLT (April 2009) will be provided for all Engineering written papers. 17. Conduct of Examinations • Examiners will normally be present for all the Engineering papers which they have set. • You may ask questions during the exams where you believe the wording of a paper is unclear or some information is incorrect or missing. • Please think carefully before you ask, because needless queries can disturb other candidates. 18. Conduct of Examinations Candidates will be permitted to take into the examination room one calculator of the types listed below: CASIO fx-83 CASIO fx-85 SHARP EL-531 Except for the drawing of diagrams, no candidate may use pencil for the writing of an examination unless prior permission has been obtained from the Proctors. 22. Conduct of Examinations • At the END of each Engineering paper you will be given a cover sheet to attach to your script. • On this cover sheet you should write: • your candidate number • an “X” by the question-numbers of the questions (up to the prescribed maximum) which you are submitting for marking. Conduct of Examinations • The front page of each paper indicates a prescribed number of answers required (e.g. “not more than FIVE questions”). • Candidates are required to indicate on their cover sheet which questions they are submitting for marking. If you don’t do this, the examiners will mark the first questions (up to the prescribed number) in the pile you have handed in. • The examiners will NOT mark questions in excess of the prescribed number.
