Master Capacity Builder COMPLEX ADAPTIVE SYSTEMS
For many years scientists saw the universe as a linear place. One where simple rules of cause and effect apply. Scientists believed the universe and everything in it could be predicted and controlled. Despite using the most powerful computers in the world the weather remained unpredictable, despite intensive study and analysis ecosystems and immune systems did not behave as expected. Gradually as scientists of all disciplines explored these phenomena a new theory emerged - complexity theory - a theory based on relationships, emergence, patterns and iterations. A theory that maintains that the universe is full of systems, weather systems, immune systems, social systems etc and that these systems are complex and constantly adapting to their environment. Hence complex adaptive systems.

“I’m interested in change that challenges the whole system, being potentially disruptive.” As an analogy, “reduce, reuse, and recycle does not challenge the system,” she explains. “Shifting the energy base challenges the system. It creates a sea change.” —Frances WestleyGetting to Maybe

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." —Albert Einstein
