wén huà文化(Culture) Chinese Names • Two Parts: 姓(xìng)+ 名 Surname + Given Name • The surname is inherited from the father. • Most of Chinese surnames have one syllable. • The given name is significant and meaningful. • 百家姓 (bǎijiāxìng) • A booklet collecting one hundred common Chinese surnames • Name Chop • Carved seal or stamp of one’s name • Used as signatures in official situations, such as legalizing a contract, acknowledging receipt of official documents, picking up a registered letter in the post office, etc.
