CRMarchaeo: Archaeological Excavation • Essential element in archaeological documentation of different countries and schools • A coordinated set of activities recognised as a unique (and unifying) entity • “Scavo archeologico” and “Saggio Stratigrafico” in Italian documentation standards (RA and SAS schemas of ICCD) • “Fouilles”and “Sondage”in French documentation system (INRAP) • “Archaeological Survey”and “Archaeological Excavation”in English Heritage documentation • Required by many ARIADNE TNA participants for mapping operations
CRMarchaeo: Archaeological Excavation • Coordinated sequence of activities intended to reply specific scientific (i.e. “archaeological”) questions • Matter removal • Observation and documentation • Preservation of the excavated strata (consolidation etc.) • Carried out according with specific authorisations provided by competent authorities • Government, superintendence, private institutions • Permission for performing activities required • Under the responsibility of a coordinator (director) • Officially designated • Legally and scientifically responsible for documentation
