Lesson 5: Voltage Objectives: 1. Describe Voltage (V)
Review: Potential difference sources have a ' negative pole' and a 'positive pole'. Current leaves the negative pole and returns to the positive pole.
Voltage: The potential energy that makes the electrical current flow in a circuit by pushing the electrons around. The unit of voltage is volt shown as 'v'. The larger the push, the bigger the volts.
Voltmeter: Compares howmuchenergyismovingthrough a circuit at twodifferentpoints. In partners: • Create a series circuit. • Add in the voltmeter and record the amount. Be sure to measure the volts in different parts of the circuit. • Record the volts with 1, 2 and 3 light bulbs. • Record your observations in a chart. • Repeat the above instructions in a parallel circuit. • Write a conclusion.
Summary: Series circuit: The total voltage is divided by each of the lights. Parallel circuit: The total voltage is the same at any point in the circuit.
