  2. EXPANDING YOUR AUDIENCE • A podcast is a new method to reach existing and new audiences with content they select. • Podcasts make content come alive with audio. • They should be informative, interesting and entertaining.

  3. NOAA PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND PODCASTS • Podcasts are mini radio programs that highlight the science and research being conducted at the agency. • Like the NOAA home page, podcasts “push” content to a worldwide audience.

NOAA PODCASTS • The first podcast was Aug. 2, 2005, with an update to the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook. • NOAA podcasts run 3-to-5 minutes. • Mini radio programs feature host and sound bites from NOAA newsmakers. • Podcasts are tied to NOAA news. • More feature stories are lined up for future podcasts.

  6. SIDE BENEFIT OF PODCASTS • Provide an opportunity to add sound bites of NOAA newsmakers to NOAA home page news stories. • Broadcast-quality audio can be used by radio stations.

  9. THE NUMBERS TELL THE TALE • What’s the news behind the numbers? *The audience wants more NOAA podcasts dealing with varying topics, but it also wants podcasts tied to current news stories.

  10. PUSHING CONTENT:“To Infinity and Beyond” • Podcasts used with RSS Feeds are a great combination to “push” news stories to an already built-in audience for NOAA.gov. • NOAA is expanding its audience by having podcasts registered in podcast directories.

  11. PODCAST DIRECTORIES • Promote your podcast by listing them in multiple directories that list the programs by subject matter, which makes them searchable. • Write little promos for your podcast. • RSS feeds for podcasts with enclosure tags so that your podcast can be found.
