  1. Recovering Windows 2K/XP passwords The easy way with Live Distros! By Carl Weisheit

  2. Boot up from Live Disto • Use one of these: • Austrumi linux • Petter Hagen nt password disk

  3. Enter the “nt_pass” option on boot up

  4. Select partition from the list

  5. Enter path to registry directory:for XP = Windows/system32/configfor 2K = WINNT/system32/config

  6. Select password reset(sam system security)

  7. Select edit user data & passwords

  8. Select Administrator

  9. Enter * to blank password

  10. Enter Y to make change

  11. Enter ! To quit changing passwords

  12. Enter Y to make changes permanent

  13. Enter N to end or Y to restart password program

  14. You are now in a shell.Enter ‘shutdown -h now’ oruse the shell to do other tasks

  15. Restart windows system • Remove Linux CD • Restart windows as administrator • Administrator password will be blank • Change administrator password • From administrator change other passwords as needed
