Calculations of Neutron Yield and Gamma Rays Intensity by GEANT4

This study by Vahagn Ivanyan on October 23, 2019, focuses on the energy spectra of gamma rays and neutrons produced after lead shielding in different beryllium target thicknesses. The simulations were carried out using GEANT4 software to analyze the interaction of particles in the C18/18.7Li or 9Be target through the Be(p,xn) reactions. The results show the energy spectra of gamma rays after lead, neutron production after lead for different beryllium targets, and the ratio of gamma rays to neutrons in various shielding configurations. The study concludes that a 2.5mm beryllium target followed by 1.27cm lead thickness is optimal. Future plans include developing a reflector model to enhance neutron beam formation using GEANT4.
