Research Project • Broad research question: Are different ant species selecting for different habitat types around campus? • Narrow research questions: Is RIFA restricted to particular habitats, and does RIFA prefer particular habitats • Applied interest: Eliminate RIFA from campus while minimizing pesticide distribution

  3. Sampling Methods • Each class will sample one habitat type • Each student will have one trap • Ziploc bag • Petri dish • ½ Vienna sausage (protein + sugar) • Each student will choose a location to sample within the habitat type • Must be at least 15 m (50 ft) from your neighbor

  4. Sampling Methods • All traps must be set at the same time • We will allow traps to attract ants for ~30 min • Must stand at least 3 m from your trap so you do not affect captures • After 30 min: • Place trap in ziploc bag • Partially close bag • Squeeze out air • Fully close bag
