Staging hardware:Fast Kicker and High power RF delay line Kickoff meeting Sergey Antipov
outline • Discussion on Wakefield Acceleration Staging demonstration at the AWA • What’s in proposal • Formulate todo list
Wakefield Acceleration Staging: Option 3 Sub-harmonic kicker 1 longer 1 2 75MeV shorter 2 15MeV The drive beam #1 takes the longer path to compensate for its early arrival at the entrance Witness and drive propagate in the same direction The waveguides are all the same since there is no need to delay the RF Can be scaled to multiple beams (next page)
Wakefield Acceleration Staging • OPTION 1: “Reverse the beam” The original 180 degree bend of the drive beam. • Pro: simple beamline and no extra RF waveguide • Con: drive beam quality loss during 180 deg bend • OPTION 2: Reverse the RF direction • Pro: avoids 180 degree bend, simple beamline • Con: uneven RF power losses in each waveguide, difficulties of transporting high power RF • OPTION 3: • Pro: avoids 180 deg bend of drive beam, no complicated RF waveguide, witness and drive in same direction • Con: complicated beam distribution system
Background: our proposal Goals: Design and build kicker Design and build mode converter for delay line 1) Fast kicker. 2) High power RF delay lines
Kicker Preliminary design from proposal • Confirm beam parameters • Kicker parameters • (deflection angle) • Beamline geometry etc.. • * Alternatives • DLA deflector • Staging – option 3?
RF delay line • Delay with waveguide length • Convert to TE01 mode (loss consideration) • Promised to make a TE10 – TE01 coupler • *alternative – ceramic delay line
TODO Kicker RF delay Confirm approach (AWA group) Start design (S.A.) • Decide on staging • Decide on geometry • Decide on kicker / deflector parameters
