Selecting a workforce: • Who do you need? • Who is available? • What can you offer them?
Three targeted groups: 1. Students 2. Community Sports Providers 3. College Staff
1. Students Task One: In small groups, consider the benefits and challenges faced by recruiting FE and HE students to form your workforce.
Student Workforce • Positives and Negatives: • Age, Experience, Qualifications, Insurance, Appreciation of the CPD, Time, Independent travel, Confidence/Ability to control groups/peers
Student Offer Task Two: In the same groups, consider what you could offer students in return for their delivery?
Student Offer • Funding towards Coach Education cost • Delivery Experience • Links to external clubs • Partners and employers • Internal training • Guidance and knowledge from CSM
Truro College model • Presented to1st Year HE student tutor groups • Not just Sports education courses (youth work, community studies) • Interviews, Internal Training, Activator Manual • Over £6,000 coach education bursaries secured • 12 Activators have now secured other paid coaching • External sponsorship of £1000 for uniform
Next Phase of Student Workforce • Develop a team of Activator Assistants to work alongside Activators
2. Community Sports Providers Task Three: In small groups, consider what you can offer them to come and deliver for you?
Community Provider Offer • Increase membership of their club • Funding towards Coach Education cost • Funding advice and support with application • Access to facilities • Opportunity to establish a satellite club
Truro College model • Directly contacted local community clubs • Asked them how we could help their club • Offered them the opportunity for them to access our students • Provided additional training and support where needed
3. Staff Task Four: Why would a member of staff want to give up their free time to help deliver activities?
Staff Offer • Member of a local club and want to help the sport grow • May get little opportunity to deliver sport – based in other departments • Enjoy getting out of their traditional environment • Want to gain delivery experience • Would like to set a new club up
Truro College model • Opportunity to help link their club with the college and develop their sport • Helped to develop a new club in the community • Funding secured for club development • Provided free access to venues and equipment • Delivery Experience • Increased membership for clubs
