You’d think a family of that size would be a full time job! Mark and Dorcas are also helping out with other ministries in the area. Here is a video showing their work with a local mission for abused girls.
Heaney Junction This next video shows something of the work that they are doing at a squatter camp – established after the Mugabe government cleared the slums in Bulawayo. The service we went to was held in Gilbert’s house – he is a member of the church and a special man.
The Gogo’s Mark and Dorcas also visit Gogo’s (widowed grandmas) in the high density suburbs.
What can we do? 1. We can pray Everyday life at Bulawayo is soaked in prayer – devotions start at 4.30am – and they have three sets of devotions before school – and more at bed time. Prayer is a lifeline to Mark and Dorcas. Let’s pray for them.
What can we do? 2. We can give Perhaps a small monthly amount so the Gogo’s get food and essential supplies every week. Perhaps a small monthly amount so the folks at Heaney Junction get food and supplies every week.
What can we do? Running a family of this size costs money – and the economy over in Zimbabwe makes things very difficult – as of now it costs about £1,800 a month – we have regular confirmed giving of about £800. Solar heating and a water pump would both be a huge blessing to them. And then there’s the car!
What can we do? The car they have has four seats. It used to be four wheel drive but only two of those work now – it rattles a lot and is forever in the shop for repairs. This is the kind of car they could use.
What can we do? We went to look at this one – it is ten years old - been quite a few miles and cost $11,500US! Everything over there is so expensive. I would love to be able to raise the cash to buy them a car.
What can we do? 3. We could visit Running this family is relentless. Mark and Dorcas are on the go all day every day. Having people visit is a huge encouragement to them. You get to live as part of this family – to experience what life is like over here and to engage with these amazing kids.
What can we do? Why not have this years holiday in Zimbabwe – and become part of something special? I went expecting to be afraid and intimidated in fact this is the least intimidating place in Africa I have ever been.
Why Mark and Dorcas? A couple of photos to show how this couple significantly impacted me.
