MISSION/GOALS • Provide students with: • timely, convenient, quality, cost effective health care services • health education • programs to promote healthy behaviors
OPERATING PROCEDURES • Scheduled Appointments • Hours of Operation: • Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. • Friday - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. • After Hours Emergency care: • Call Campus Police or 911 • Ambulance Service

REQUIRED HEALTH INFORMATION • Tuberculosis Risk Assessment (complete online) - PPD skin test or blood work for TB if indicated by risk assessment • Medical History (complete online) - Need parental consent signed if student <18 years of age • Immunizations - acceptable documentation includes:-Copy of high school immunization record-Immunization record from your health care provider-Copy of official lab titer report for M-M-R
Requirements for Athletes • Physical Exam • Sickle Cell Screen-NCAA recommends athletic departments confirm sickle cell trait status in all student athletes Physical Exam for other students is recommended but not required
REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS • 2 doses MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine after the first birthday • Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis vaccine (Tdap or Td) within 10 years
RECOMMENDED IMMUNIZATIONS • Meningitis • Hepatitis B • Hepatitis A • HPV vaccine • Varicella if no history chickenpox • Annual Influenza vaccine
Meningitis Vaccine • Those in on-campus housing must receive the meningococcal vaccination or sign a waiver • Recommend that students be vaccinated before arrival on campus • Health center does have meningococcal vaccine available
Meningitis Vaccine Recommendations • Routine vaccination recommended at age 11-12 years with a booster dose at age 16 years • If first dose given at or after age 16 years, booster dose not needed as long as there are no other risk factors
PERTUSSIS (Whooping Cough) • Highly contagious respiratory tract infection • Immunity from childhood vaccinations wanes over time • In 2005, CDC recommended routine use of Tdap (combined Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis) in adolescents aged 11-18 years instead of Td and in adults needing a tetanus booster. • Tdap available at Health Center
Hepatitis B vaccine • Three injections are needed for full protection • Available at heath center
HPV Vaccine (Gardasil) • Approved June, 2006 • Protects against 4 strains of HPV – two of which are linked to 70% of the cervical cancer in this country • Three injections over 6 months • Have available at Health Center
Influenza Vaccination • Recommended for all persons, including school-aged children, who want to reduce the risk of becoming ill with influenza • Two types of Influenza vaccine available at the health center: Trivalent Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (TIV) & Live, Intranasal Influenza Vaccine (LAIV) • Have available each fall starting in October and continue to vaccinate through flu season • Students e-mailed to notify • Cost usually about $20
Prevention • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way. • Try to avoid close contact with sick people. • Stay home if you are sick to keep from infecting others and spreading the virus further.

Health Insurance • Not required but highly recommend that students have for care outside health center. • With Health Care Reform, students under the age of 26 years should be able to continue on their parent’s health insurance policy. • Currently link on web site under “Student Insurance” for plan through American College Student Association
