What is MyMathLab? Demonstration at www.coursecompass.com
Our Experience with MyMathLab • How we got started • How we use it • Distance Learning • Online Hybrid Classes • Traditional Classes • Coordinator Courses
Our Experience with MyMathLab • What we love about MML • Frees up class time to focus on material • “Infinite” practice for students • Great online resources • Instant feedback for students • No more hours of grading • Ability to customize course and to customize exercises
Our Experience with MyMathLab • Problems and their solutions • Contacting online students (course not on WebCT page) • Email/call students • Orienting students • Online orientation checklist/detailed syllabus • On-campus computer labs/Testing Centers • Communication with IT Department • Testing Services need improvement • Keeping up with students’ progress • Review online work (Item Analysis)
What are our results?Online • Beginning Algebra Success Rates ranging from 32% - 67% Most recent semester: 56% • Intermediate Algebra Success Rates ranging from 20% - 55% Most recent semester: 40% Higher than average pass rate on COMPASS
What are our results?Hybrid • Beginning Algebra Success Rates ranging from 26% - 55% Most recent semester: 26% • Intermediate Algebra Success Rates ranging from 21% - 65% Most recent semester: 65%
What does the data tell us? • There is a lot of work to do! • We need a “filter” to make sure the best suited students enroll in these courses • We need better communication so that students understand course expectations
Where do we go from here? WebCT VISTA & MML Integration Pilot
