Growingupwithahandicappedtwinbrother,Christiansawearlyonthat lifeisnotalwaysfair.Itdoesnottreateveryoneequallyandrandomly throughschallengesandhurdlesatpeople.ButhealsosawhowmuchhislovingParentsBrigitteandFriedhelmweresupportinghis handicappedbrother.andthatwithagreatteam,youcanovercomemanyhurdles. LeadershipLessonstolearnfromthisarethatovercomingchallenges requiresnotjustindividualeffort,butalsothesupportofthosearoundus andthatworkingtogetherthroughthesechallengescanreallyformaverystrongteamandhelptodevelopresilienceandstrength. Hisschoollifewasalsonoeasyandstraightforwardjourney.After primaryschool,hehadtherecommendationtogoto"Hauptschule",the schoolfortheleastgiftedkids.Hisparentsbelievedinhisabilitiesand motivatedhimtogoatleasttothe"Realschule"whichistheschoolfor middle-giftedchildreninGermany.Itwasnoteasyforhimbuthe finishedthisschoolin1995.HethengottheopportunitythroughhisauntDorotheatogoforoneyeartotheUnitedStatesasanexchange studentwherehenotonlylearnedEnglishbutforemostlivedan independentlifeandtakeoverresponsibilityforhislife.Aftertwomore

Leadershiplessonstolearnfromthisare,thatifyoubelieveinpeople andsupportthembyprovidingopportunities,theycanoutgrowthe highestexpectations.Also,youshouldalwaysbelieveinyourselfand yourabilities,evenwhenothersdonot.Don'tletsetbacksdiscourage you;usethemasmotivationtoworkharderandstriveforsuccessand embracethemasopportunitiesforpersonalgrowth,eveniftheyare challenging. Putthesuccessofyourcustomersfirst,andyourcustomerswill ensureyousucceed. Christianstartedhisprofessionalcareerinasmallconsultancycompany, mainlyworkingonCRMProjectsfor BMW.HisbossPeter,whowas alsotheownerofthecompanythoughthimtobehumbleandserve customersaswellasalwayslookfornewmethodsandtechnologiesto solvetasks.Christianadoptedtothisandput customersfirst,servingand workinghardfortheirprojectsandsuccess,notfocusingonhisown developmentbut onthesuccessofandforthecustomer.Byworkingin thisway,hewasquicklyrecognizedbythecustomers,assignedmore projectsandateam,andwasevenofferedtheroleofCEOforthe companyafterjust4yearsofworkexperience.Aftergainingdeeper insightsintothecompany,therewereafewthingsthatwerenot congruentwithChristian'svalues.Herememberedonepromisehehad givenhimselfduringuniversity"Onlyadvanceyourcareerandonlydo thingsthatareinalignmentwith yourvaluessothatyoucanevery morningwakeupwithacleanheartandbeproudofthepersonyouseeinthemorninginthemirror.
